"For My Friend"
A green space stretches between us,
Speckled with fish and foam;
On either side is tawny sand
Under a sky of chrome.
God gave us so much beauty
In this thirsty world below
That we can never drink it all,
‘Though it fill an ocean full.
Shadowed boats go whispering across;
Planes, they neatly fly
Beneath a night crisscrossed with stars
Washed in the moon’s bright eye.
It is hard to pass from here to there,
But hopeful, my soul still sings,
And prayers arise like morning doves
To cross on the Spirit’s wings.
Let this prayer be said for you:
“O God, grant grace without end,
Courage, joy, the truth of You,
And wisdom’s rest to my friend.”
